Rosatom to build 150 bln rbl power units for Chukotka mining plant

MOSCOW, Apr 21 (PRIME) -- Chukotatomenergo, a subsidiary of Russian state nuclear power corporation Rosatom, plans to build upgraded floating power units worth 150 billion rubles that will power future Baimsky mining and processing plant in the Chukotka Autonomous District, the Far East and Arctic Development Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The first two floating power units should be launched in January–March 2027, the third in January–March 2028, and the fourth in mid-2031.

The Baimsky porphyry copper area, including the Peschanka field, was bought by Baimskaya mining company held by Millhouse of tycoon Roman Abramovich, at a 2008 auction. In 2018, the project was sold to Kazakhstan's KAZ Minerals. The deposit’s aggregate resources have been estimated at around 30 million tonnes of copper and 2,000 tonnes of gold.
